Blues Saraceno
: Plaid. CD 1992 Guitar Recordings.                  Welcome  4-D   De-Li   Lo-R   U-Ä

Cat's Squirrel.

Technically not a cover-version; CS is trad and the arrangement is by BS and friends. But I wonder if it's not influenced by the JT-
version? Anyway, it's so good, with such amazing guitar-playing, that I wanted to include it here.

Blues Saraceno: Hair Pick. CD 1994 Guitar Recordings.

Bouree.

Flute replaced by Steve Vai'ish guitar. Kind of  fun, but maybe such a guitar-virtuoso could have gotten even more out of it?
Giuseppe Scaravilli: Tributes. CD-R 2004.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

An officially unreleased CD-single by Malibran band-leader, featuring three acoustic songs. GRYMG is based on the Tull Christmas
arrangement, but I find this much better, laidback and swinging. To be honest, I think Tull's version is the worst piece they've ever
recorded... I'm glad GS shows how it could have been done!
Scrambled X: Locomotive Breath. www.scrambled-x.de/MP3.html.

Sadly this version by German hard-rock covers band fades out at 2.53, in the middle of the guitar-solo. On the other hand, the
intro is apparently the best part here. The rest is energetic, but ordinary.
Screaming Trees: Something About Today. Promo CD single 1991 Epic.

New Day Yesterday.

Grunge band serves a heavy rendition of  this classic. More air, less metal I'd wish.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band: The Penthouse Tapes. CD 1993 (1976) Vertigo.

Love Story.

Punky cabaret-rock version. Just not in my taste.
Sheer Terror: Bulldog Edition. CD 2000 Blackout Records.

Hymn 43.

NYC hard core punk band throw up their angst. They have got one thing exactly right: the name of the band.
Show Of Hands: Covers. CD 2000 Hands On Music.

Wond'ring Aloud.

Perfect performance. Very close if not as good as the original, with a true personal conception. It can't be done better.
The Shuffle: European Collection 1. CD 2001.

Locomotive Breath.

"In the shuffling madness…" Yes, this is a live shuffle version of LB by The Shuffle (or Shuffle Kings) from Australia. Very
professional...and very good! Marvellous organ and flute solos. Also featured a great instrumental titled "Homage to Ian".
Silverwood Quartet: Silverwood. CD 1999 Flying Frog Music.
Fantasia On Themes Of Jethro Tull.
(Aqualung/Living In The Past/Thick as A Brick/The Whistler/Bungle In The Jungle)
Silverwood Quartet: The Classic Rock Album. CD 2005 Flying Frog Music.

Bourée, Medley Aqualung/Living In The Past/Thick as A Brick/The Whistler.

Classical crossovers often come with the promise of a refreshing angle to standard rock material. With only a few exceptions however, they rather
pale than add anything. I'm afraid SQ is a typical example of this. On a positive note it has to be said that the 2005 recordings have much more
balls than the older ones and that the snippet of Whistler is really good. Why not focus completely on that side of Tull?

Sir Vent: Locomotive Breath. membrane.com/watch_for_falling_angels/#Locomotive_Breath

An avant-garde view on LB. Some interesting moments in the intro but as a whole this seems to be a self-contained experiment that
           leaves the listener indifferent.
The Six And Violence: Lettuce Prey (UKDB Edition). CD 1996 A New Day Records.

Sunshine Day--A Jethro Tull Medley, Nothing I s Easy.

The medley is fabulously funny and hysterically well-played, a jewel among Jethro Tull covers! "Nothing Is Easy" doesn't
come close to the same standard of finesse, too much aggression.
Skippy: Skating Away… http://www.tradedforwheat.com/skippysings/music.html

An apparently quick & unrehearsed solo take, ok as that. If you go the address above remember to click the essential link The Story:)
Slow Marching Band: Live At Kaukajärvi 20.09.2003. CD-R 2003.
New Day Yesterday, Living In The Past, Locomotive Breath, Minstrel In he Gallery, Witches Promise, Aqualung, Too Old To
           Rock'n'Roll.

Another of guitarist Jaakko Hänninen's Tull-tribute projects (check-out Apogee elsewhere in my collection). This recording is from
their very first show. Promising, to say the least! Interesting line-up with female vocalist and violin. Highlights: ANDY, LITP and WP.
Slow Marching Band: Live At YO-talo 12.10.2004.  2CD-R 2004.

Something's On The Move, New Day Yesterday, Too Old To Rock'n'Roll, Acres Wild, Broadsword, Hymn 43, Witches Promise,
Mother Goose, Wond'ring Aloud, Dun Ringill, Up To Me, Minstrel In The Gallery, Living In The Past, Aqualung, Locomotive
           Breath.

SMB played a whole evening of Tull, rounded up with some Genesis, Yes, Crimson. Should have been there! Note the first known
cover of SOTM. Again, excellent work-outs of ANDY and LITP. JT-convention organizers around the world: it's time to discover this
           band!
Slow Marching Band: The Early Years. 2CD-R 2005.

Minstrel In The Gallery, Something's On The Move, Acres Wild, Witches Promise, Living In The Past, Mother Goose,
Up To Me, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick.

SMB played a summer night's concert, and this time I was lucky be there! Their best qualities are summed up in the awesome
instrumental part of LITP, their fine arrangements of MG and UTM and the 17:54 worth of TAAB! Again a highly enjoyable set,
with classic prog pieces by Yes, Kansas, Genesis & Crimson included. Check them out at http://www.j-hanninen.com/smb/.
So'n Ohr: Ultraschall. CD 2001.

Locomotive Breath.

Nice fluting by Christoph Marx on this version that somehow doesn't take off as intended. Maybe a simpler rhythm arrangement
           would do the trick?
Souldrivers: In The Shuffling Madness.  CD-R 2000.

Love Story, Life Is A Long Song, Thick As A Brick, Locomotive Breath.

Souldrivers cruise in the right direction when they seek new angles to old songs. Notably TAAB gets a refreshing treatment.
Would it sound something like this if Springsteen would do it? And a soul version of LB! Good!
Spring String Quartet: Train Songs.  CD 2002 CCn'C Records.

Locomotive Breath.

Very good version by inventive Austrian string quartet. The classic intro is absolutely beautiful as well as the flute-solo played note-
by-note on violin. Rocks far better than most electric versions.
Squareheads: Locomotive Breath.

This hard-rock version has been released on a compilation album called 'Draa!!' (Birdnest Records) featuring Swedish bands. Well
performed, but not really standing out from the huge amount of LB:s out there. Thanks Brian for providing me with this impossible-
            to-get item!
Stack Waddy: Stack Waddy/Bugger Off! CD 1994 (1971) See For Miles Records.

Love Story.

Even though I think early seventies I find it completely unbelievable that this band ever made it to a recording studio, not to
mention that they released two records. The sleeve note tells that the band thought LS was their own composition!
  It's so badly
played that I must cite Frank Zappa: "I could do that!"
Stanford Band: Mirth Control. CD 1995.

Aqualung.

Aqualung played by a marching band! A pretty confusing experience, although it has it moments. It has to be taken with camp-
humour, of course. If nothing else...it sure is different!

Aaron Stevenson: Tull Medley (Bouree, Sweet Dreams, Locomotive Breath). http://www.jtbmusic.com/

Not really a cover but a simple flute rehearsal. Hopefully AS will develop into a musical maestro carrying on the Tull tradition!
Still: One Brown Mouse. http://www.echolyn.com/multimedia.php

This is a remix of Echolyn's OBM that appears on the various artists tribute album "To Cry You A Song". It's given a slightly darker
mood through some heavier guitar sounds.

Still Alive: Take Me With You. CD 2001.

Locomotive Breath.

Well played piano-intro overshadows the rest on this stiff version by German party-band.
Stone Houses:  Locomotive Breath, Locomotive Breath (live). www.stonehouses.com.

High energy & heavy shuffling. Competent musicianship ensures a good version for this genre.
Stones Crossing: Locomotive Breath. http://www.stonescrossingmusic.com/download.htm

Nothing really new, but not bad either… just one of those LB:s!
Straight Ahead: Living In The Past Lane. CD 1996 Straight Ahead.

Living In The Past.

Excellent surprise from this Australian all-acoustic celtic-jazz band! Starring flautist/vocalist Cicilia Kemezys, this version
features wonderful mandolin, guitar and flute solos. Absolutely great stuff.
Strange Brew: Locomotive Breath. http://www.strangebrew.de/mp3/mp3.html

SB skillfully manages to keep this kind of slow version funky. Definitely one of the better LB:s.
Strongbow: Locomotive Breath. Demo CD 2002. www.edu.uni-klu.ac.at/~csantner/strongbow/demo_cd.htm

This Austrian hard-rock cover-band starts LB with a fairly interesting own intro. The rest is heavy, exhausting and indifferent.
Rémy Sträuli: The Elf Album. CD 1997 Xopf Records.

Batteries Not Included.

Swiss drummer Sträuli plays all instruments and sings on this enjoyable take. Definitely a better drummer than singer, but can't
complain when someone pulls off this piece of  best prog-rockin' Tull. Good.
Styx: Big Bang Theory. CD 2005 Frontiers Records.

Locomotive Breath.

It's all to seldom you get to go to a regular music store and buy a name band's new album featuring a JT-cover. Styx made that
happen, but sadly the cover itself is something of a disappointment, starting from the choice of song. For some reason they left out
the intro, which usually saves versions that lack originality.
Sun Palace: Into Heaven. CD Drake Entertainment 2000.

Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day.

Good, close to excellent version by Andriette Redmann & band. A fine arrangement, vocal sound has a slight remembrance of
           Suzanne Vega.

Suzy-Ray-Vaughn: Locomotive Breath.

American party-band featuring members Suzy, Ray and Vaughn. Not much more to be said really...the singer is ok, but the
arrangement and band performance just a bit too inaccurate.
Gail Swanson: Standing On The Bridge. CD 1996 Sea Note Music.

Locomotive Breath.

There are a lot of cover-versions of LB, but this is the best to date. Good rocking version with fab female voice. Irresistable
groove, funky flute-soloing, and it's recorded in Pukulani, Hawaii!
Sås & Kopp. Unreleased CD-R 1998.

Låkåmåtiv Bref, Livets Tåg (Locomotive Breath).

S & K (Pasi Hiihtola and Peik Stenberg) are best known for their highly innovative and humorous children's music. Hiihtola  is
also a true Tull-fan, and a successful composer of stage music. Here's two versions of LB, based on the same arrangement, one
sung in English, the other in Swedish. Especially the latter works well with superbly translated lyrics. They've succeeded with the
impossible: make LB into a fun rock tune for children!

Take Five
: Locomotive Breath.
German cover-band with a really good singer. Clearly one of the better LB-covers, with tight playing and good arrangement.
Tangent: Aqualung. http://www.tangentrocks.com/page7.html

A very competent and faithful version. Really good.
Tarot: As One. CD-single 1995 Bluelight Records.

Locomotive Breath.

Acoustic version by Finnish heavy-band. Vocalist Marco Hietala has a strong voice (he is also a member of Tull tribute band
Dr. Bogenboom). This take is good enough, though it doesn't bring anything essentially new to LB.
Tear Gas: Tear Gas. CD 1993 (1971) Renaissance.

Love Story.
Pre- Alex Harvey Band. Pretty close to the arrangement that appears on SAHB:s Penthouse Tapes. Rough guitar work by Zal
           Cleminson.

Techno Bad Bones: At The Spur Of The Moment. http://yzark.com/albums/free_freeform_MP3_live_concerts/at_the_spur_of_the_moment.html

Boree.

The above is not a typo I've made, it says so on the TBB web-site… This one-man-band synth-based take is announced as "sort of a dixieland-
jazz cover-version". Well, I'm not sure about that, but it's sort of good and fun anyway!
Temple Of The Absurd: Mother, Creator, God. 1CD + 1 CD-ROM  1999 High Gain Records.

Locomotive Breath.

This German death-metal band seeks to be original by having a female vocalist. What's absurd is that she growls and snarls exactly
like all her male colleagues in the field of death. A nice drum-intro collapses in the matter of seconds under the guitar-wall and from
there on this version is 100 % predictable, boring and annoying.
Terra Firma: Spiral Guru. 7" 1999 The Music Cartel.

For A Thousand Mothers.

Respectable attempt by Swedish heavy band. Standard of playing is good, but sound-wise a disappointment. Too much distortion?
FATM is of course one of those all time huge Tull-classics, this version doesn't tarnish that fact the slightest.
Time Warp: Hymn 43. www.timewarprocks.com/playlist.html

A live take by American party band. Pretty good singer, but the band isn't too convincing. Probably sounds much better on location.
Johnny Tonite: Live Tonight. Cassette Jeterboy 1993.

Locomotive Breath.

This ultra-rare, cassette only release was recorded during a 4 hour session at Miami Beach on October 6th, 1993. A hard-edged,
uncompromising version of LB. It rocks!
Pat Travers: Don't Feed The Alligators. CD 2000 Shrapnel Records.
           Nothing Is Easy.

Excellent rockin' version. Flute replaced  with fabulous hammond-sound. Absolutely great stuff!
Triad. Unreleased CD-R.

Hunting Girl, Rover, One Brown Mouse, Beside Myself, Conundrum, Jack-A-Lynn, Part Of The Machine, Budapest, Bourée/
Songs From The Wood, Another Christmas Song, Black Mamba, Pibroch, One White Duck, Dun Ringill, Thick As A Brick.

Look at that set-list! It's like a dream. Conundrum! Would you believe it, this American tribute trio pulls it off with splendour.
Hair-raising standard overall. The section from Conundrum to OWD is dramaturgically perfect with too many magic moments to
mention. BlMa, a piece I never thought much of, rises in this setting equal to the classics surrounding it. It's also the first cover of a
Dot Com song I've heard. Triad uses drum-programming which might scare some Tull-"puritans". But it's done with great skill,
and after all one of JT:s best albums was recorded complete with drum-program… "Join the chorus if you can…". Triad does just
that and wins the challenge. TAAB downloadable at www.abyssmall.com/c-electric.htm. (Thanks Brian for this one!)
Triad: Passion Jig/Living In The Past.

Those super-kind and -talented Triad boys sent me this "bonus-track". As expected: it's great. LITP is based on the marvellous JT
            live-version. Top points.
Marcelo Tull. http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/marcelotull2/musicas.html

We Used To Know, Look Into The Sun, Summer Day Sands, Jack In The Green, Thick As A Brick, Wond'ring Aloud, Nursie,

Loveless, Salamander, One White Duck, Grace, Life Is A Long Song, Cheap Day Return, Locomotive Breath, Skating Away…,
            Witches Promise.
Videos: Cheap Day Return, Life Is A Long Song, Reasons For Waiting, Thick As A Brick.
Well, I think if you put up that amount of stuff on the net for public download, you stand above all criticism! MT, from Brazil, plays
acoustic guitar well, while the singing isn't always as convincing. However, for instance the interpretation of RFW is excellent. Now
(July -06) I found that MT has put up a few videos as well, including his "hit" RFW. Good work.
Marcelo Tull: Aqualung. CD 2005.
Tribute CD featuring the above mentioned tracks (excl. WUTK) +
Aqualung.
Marcelo Tull: Only Solitaire, Nursie, Salamander, Summer Day Sands, Thick As A Brick, Wondring Aloud, Dun Ringill, Reasons For Waiting,
            We Used To Know.
Videos on CD-R.
Marcelo's tribute-material is now available also on CD, with a higher resolution. The videos can be found on youtube, all with his friendly
            home-made touch. Enjoy:)
Two Track: Sossity You're A Woman, To Cry You A Song. http://www.accessguy.com/history/028_01_Music.asp

Two tracks by Two Track, an acoustic guitar duo. SYAW works really fine, TCYAS maybe not so. Hopefully this duo that only played
together for a few weeks, will do a comeback soon!

Welcome  4-D   De-Li   Lo-R    U-Ä
