Delirium: Live. CD 2006 Black Widow.                                                                                Welcome    4-D   Lo-R   S-T   U-Ä
           Jethro Tull Medley incl.
Bourèe, Living In The Past.

Italian veteran band captured live. "Bourèe" with flute improvisations lead to an interesting and energetic version of LITP. Good.
Jörg Discher. Locomotive Breath. www.jdischer.de/Joerg's %20Seite/Songbook/CD.htm.

Home solo recording with guitar and vocal. LB always fun to play, of course.
Divergenza: Cross-Eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath, Mother Goose, Wondring Aloud. http://www.divergenza.it/x/index.htm

Humour? Sorry, crap.
Don Simon Band: First We Take Manhattan. Promo CD.

Lokomotive Breath.

DSB from Germany play a selection of good covers on this promo CD. LB isn't necessarily among the best, but solid anyway.
Dr. Bogenboom: Plays Jethro Tull. CD-R 2000 (unreleased)

Cross-Eyed Mary, Thick As A Brick (edit), Bouree, Fallen On Hard Times, Aqualung, A New Day Yesterday, Locomotive
           Breath.

This band got it's name due to a misspelling in a paper-ad. Here they are captured live doing those familiar Tull-standards with
good, professional touch. A great acoustic version (guitar, vocals, flute) of "Fallen On Hard Times" highlights

The Duke Of Burlington
: The Pressed Piano. CD 1996 (1970) Joker (SAAR).

Bourrée.

This rare Italian version starts nicely from the classic flute-solo. Bach's theme emerges after the at least as classic bass-solo. Nice stuff
from "the good (?) old days".

Francis Dunnery: American Life In The Summertime. CD-single 1994 Atlantic.

Living In The Past.

Humour definitely belongs in music. This heavy-reggae version with revised lyrics and everything else imaginable proves it loud
           and clear. Good good  fun.
Francis Dunnery: Thick As A Brick.

To my knowledge FD played TAAB live back in 1999. This is from some bootleg-recording. 3 minutes from the top with guitar,
vocals and the bass playing the classic flute bits. FD introduces: "I wrote this last night and I liked it". I like it too.
Dutch Kills: Dutch Kills.  CD 1989 Red A Records.

Locomotive Breath.

Fairly good heavy rendition by N.Y. indie metal band. Nice fast tempo & guitar soloing.
Earth Eatz Dog!
: Fetch! CD 2002 Freedom Of Speech Records.

Locomotive Breath.

I must say that LB gets overshadowed by the electrifying original material of EED. Excellent, untamed  funk-meets-rock with 100%
            street-credibility.

Eipeltower Experience: Locomotive Breath. Live demo 2000. www.edu.uni-klu.ac.at/~mkropfbe/eipeltower/

Not too bad considering this recording is made with a cassette-player. With it's nice little touch of funk, this version is surely most
           enjoyable live.
Ekseption: Classic In Pop. LP 197? Philips.

Dharma For One.

Released on Ekseption's debut album. The copy I have is a music-club pressing, thus the strange title. Label informs: "Dharma",
composer J. Tull!  Rather good energetic rendition, made in the early seventies classical-rock crossover boom.
Electra: Die Hits. CD 1996 Amiga.
           Türkischer Marsch/
Locomotiv Breath.
Electra: Live. CD 2001 Buschfunk.

Boureé/Locomotiv Breath.

A veteran band from the former DDR. Both these takes are live, with the Mozart march as a vehicle for a lengthy flute solo. The model for
it isn't hard to detect...especially with the "Aqualung"-riff thrown in a couple of times. The very high standard of playing makes this stuff
most enjoyable. The vocalist losing his English and improvising some double Dutch on the 2001 version makes it all the more fun. Also
featured on the live album the Turk march complete with Aqua riffs, snorts and grunts.
Elf: Aqualung, Cross-Eyed Mary.

Thanks Juha for these interesting files with Ronnie James Dio's band live in USA 1972. Not bad.
Elfelejtem: Aqualung. http://mp3.wp.pl/p/strefa/artysta/4915,utwor,33325.html

Good energy and effort from this first Polish band in my collection. Some errors and bootleg sound lowers the enjoyment.
Elves: Aqualung. www.diozine.com

A live recording by Ronnie James Dio's band from 1971. Well performed, completely faithful to the original.
Fairport Convention
: Who Knows Where The Time Goes? CD 1997 Woodworm Records.

Life's A Long Song.

Based on the arrangement performed by Dave Pegg on the Magna Carta Tull-tribute album. Nice and relaxed, guaranteed
           Fairport-standard.
Fancy Train: Seid's Freindlich! CD 2001.

Locomotive Breath.

This is LB number 100 in my collection. A steady take, but not very original. The synth-solo is a nice idea, but I'm not so sure about the
the sound chosen. The CD is out of print but kindly made downloadable at http://www.fancy-train.de/download.html.
Fandango: Locomotive Breath. www.fandango-mg.de/download.htm

German rock and blues covers band perform LB really well, but without adding much personality. Extra plus for tasteful piano.
Fast Fred: Locomotive Breath.

I have no idea who Fred is or where and when this has been recorded. It's live and probably very unofficial. It's also pretty good!
Maybe FF slightly exceeds his vocal capability at some point, but so what, it's
rock'n'roll!
Fat Bottom: Strait Jacket Boogie. CD 2002 Strait Jacket Records.

Locomotive Breath.

Good intention to do LB as a jazzy blues with a bass intro. If the drummer would have refrained from filling all that much on this
live recording the idea would work even better.
Maynard Ferguson: Maynard Ferguson. LP 1971 Columbia.

Living In The Past.

Big band jazz with huge sounds. Absolutely fabulous stuff from master trumpet player.
First Of May: See You Soon… CD.

Locomotive Breath.

This CD is downloadable at www.firstofmay.ch/mp3/. Once again the piano-intro proves to be the best section. Not much originality or
finesse about the rest, I'm afraid.
Fire: Cross Eyed Mary. www.firewebsite.com.songs.htm
Recorded live 2001, this faithful version is ok played but the vocals feel somehow lazy. Maybe the sound on this file just doesn't do the
           singer justice?
The Flamethrowers Band: Cross Eyed Mary, Aqualung, Locomotive Breath http://www.flamethrowersband.com

Good, solid performance. Must be a great live band. Aqua and LB added later to the site and, yes, I was right! They are good live; just
            check out the LB video.

Floating Rock Ensemble: Locomotive Breath.

Unknown band performs a live and not-too-well rehearsed party version. Piano intro ok.
Fluff Grrl: Locomotive Breath.

Punk metal band from San Francisco with members such as Ed the Creep and Princess Stinky Kunt perform a raping of LB.
I assume that they are satisfied with the result as it is a true torment for the ear and mind.
Folk Studio A: Now & Then. CD Artis Records.

Christmas Song.
Folk Studio A: Folk & Noble Jig. CD 1999 Music On.

Christmas Song.

High expectations on these two versions (studio and live) by Italian-Celtic all-acoustic band. The arrangement and orchestration is
excellent, but I'm sad to say that the vocal performance provides a major let-down.
Michael Forbes: Bourree. michaelforbesexplosion.com/jethro_tull_tribute.htm
American tribute project live. A "trad" version of B, following the JT original as close as possible. Certainly fab to enjoy at the beach
festival… The website also has video clips of MF performing "Loco", "Aqua" and "Cross Eyed Mary".
Fourth Estate: Dustbuster Demos. CD 2002 Hapi Skratch Records.

Locomotive Breath.

Fab funk-rock version by American virtuoso-trio, highlighted by a snappy bass-solo and the intro played gloriously on guitar.
John Fratus: Locomotive Breath. www.johnfratus.com/othergoodstuff.html

A spontaneous jam with guitar, vocals and flute, clocking at 8:03! Just a bit of fun for the players, but nothing to rave about for the
           listener.

Ronald Gallagher
: Mother Goose. www.ronaldgallagher.com/sounds.cfm

Sincere home-made (?) version with electric guitar, flute and vocals.
Gianni & Silvia: Play Acoustic Songs From Jethro Tull. CD-R rec. 2000.

Dun Ringill, Under Wraps, Circular Breathing, Set Aside, Jeffrey Goes To Leicester Square, Up The Pool, Solitario.

Apparently an unofficial release with the 6 first tracks recorded at the Tull-convention Italiana 2000. UTP is featured on the
official video from the occasion. "Solitario" is an Italian version of "Only Solitaire" from the 'Songs For Jethro, Vol. 1' -tribute
album produced by Itullians.  It's Gianni Mochetti (guitar, vocals) and Silvia Perlini (vocals) who perform this enjoyable set. Funny
how the new songs (CB, SA) sound much more interesting when combined with old favourites. OS sounds excellent sung in Italian.
Good News: Dry. CD 2001 White Eagle Music.

Locomotive Breath.

One of German singer/guitarist Gerd Rube's many projects. Really cool, stylish and well-played. Sax and piano solos add to the
pleasure. In the end this version surprisingly evolves in to a medley with "Another Brick in the Wall" and "Papa was a Rolling
Stone"! After a few listens even that starts to feel perfectly fine.
The Gourds: Locomotive Breath. www.nugs.net

The audience seems to enjoy this light-hearted live-version with the singer forgetting the lyrics and attempting a yodel-solo!
The Grab Brothers Band: Cross Eyed Mary, Locomotive Breath. http://www.grabbrothers.com/Coversonglist.htm

From the enormous cover song list of The GBB you can download two JT-classics. Especially CEM captures the JT intensity very well.
Big thanks to Rich from the band for these versions!

Trond Granlund: I Can't Quit Now. CD 1993.

Inside.

After the initial surprise you realize that this version by Norwegian veteran rocker is absolutely wonderful. It's carried out as an
intimate western folk ballad. Like Clapton on "461 Ocean Boulevard". Completely different from the original, but at least as good!
Greenhouse Effect: Greenhouse Effect 89-92. Demo CD-R.

Cross-Eyed Mary, Aqualung, Too Old To Rock'n'Roll, Cross-Eyed Mary 2004 Mix, Aqualung 2004 Mix, Too Old To
           Rock'n'Roll 2004 Mix.

This is the first of Jaakko Hänninen's many Tull-tributes, a set of demos made for the fun of playing songs by a favourite band.
Already present is the knife-sharp CEM arrangement, later successfully adapted by JH's next project Apogee. Also notable is the
amazing capability of singer Aki Virta, improvising lyrics that very closely parallel the English language! Huge thanks Jaakko for
bringing these true rarities to daylight.
Group Du Jour: Teacher/We Built The Machines.  Cassette single 1992 New Weave Records.

Teacher.

A sincere attempt by this American group. Something about the arrangement, guitar-sound, drum programming and even vocals
makes it sound a bit too home-made to reach target.
Groove-T-Gang: Live At The Ascot '95. www.groove-t-gang.ch

Locomotive Breath.

An amateur party band does a basic LB with some interesting hammond-organ.
The Gypsys: Locomotive Breath. www.gypsys.de/index2.htm

German multi-cultural cover band starts LB with the classic piano intro well played. A synth solo cheers up the pretty accustomed
           wholeness.

Jürgen Handke: Jethro Tull Music-Vol. 1 "Oldies But Goldies. Cassette.

Living In The Past, Sweet Dream, Teacher, Too Old To Rock'n'Roll.., Bungle In The Jungle, A New Day Yesterday,
Thick As A Brick, My God, Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, A Serenade To A Cuckoo.
Jürgen Handke: Jethro Tull Music-Vol. 2 "Women And Nature". Cassette 1995.

The Witch's Promise, Hunting Girl, Budapest, Cross-Eyed Mary, Fat Man, Elegy, Farm On The Freeway, Heavy
           Horses/Bouree, Rock Island/Pussy Willow, Coronach.
Jürgen Handke: Jethro Tull Music-Vol. 3 "Classic Cases". Cassette 1995.

In The Pay Of Spain, Bouree, A Serenade To A Cuckoo, Elegy, Orion, Broadsword, Passion Play #OUT, Songs From
Wood, Sleeping With The Dog, Thick As A Brick, Nursie, One White Duck
Jürgen Handke: Handke Plays Tull "The Passion Tour". Cassette 1996.

A Passion Play #1/Nothing Is Easy, Too Old To Rock'n'Roll.., The Clasp, A New Day Yesterday, Budapest, Roots To
Branches, Living In The Past, A Passion Play #End, Black Sunday, At Last Forever, Thick As A Brick, My God,
           Hunting Girl/Heavy Horses, Aqualung.

Jürgen Handke is the king of Jethro Tull covering, that's for sure. Naturally such a huge material contains good and not so
good takes, but the overall impression is overwhelming. All songs were recorded during pre-concert sound-checks, so though
the performance leans on computer-based backing tracks, there is a nice live-feel to it all. There are some really interesting
arrangements and combinations of songs. And there's more...
Jürgen Handke: Jethro Tull Classics.  CD 1997.

Aqualung, Serenade To A Cuckoo, The Clasp, A Passion Play, Teacher, Minstrel In The Gallery, Sleeping With The
Dog, Bouree, Orion, At Last Forever, Hunting Girl/Heavy Horses, Locomotive Breath, Cheerio.

Somehow Handke's  home-recorded CD lacked the spontaneity of his earlier releases. The balance of man and machine
doesn't for some reason feel right. Nevertheless there are some moments of excellence. Apparently he retired after this
recording, which is really sad because  according to the flyer that came with the CD he had already recorded material for a
follow-up, including "We Used To Know/Hotel California"! I for one would be more than eager to hear that!
Jürgen Handke: Jethro Tull Covers Vol. 2.  Unreleased CD-R 2001.

Broadsword, Living In The Past, Thick As A Brick, We Used To Know Hotel California, The Witch's Promise,
           Coronach.

Jürgen Handke kindly offered me the opportunity to take part of some of his unreleased material. Guaranteed Handke-standard
with many interesting details. The gem is of course WUTK/HC. A good arrangement, sure to take the unexpecting by surprise!
Hard2Cover: LA Trax. CD 1999.

Locomotive Breath.

This is a spontaneous "for fun"-version made in the rehearsal room. Alright as such--a light heavy work out!
Hardcore Blues Band: Locomotive Breath.

HCBB live in Funky Town. This has to be the first time I've heard someone rap on LB!
H Band: Live Body Live Spirit. 2CD 2002 Poison Apple.

Life Is A Long Song.

This is a side project of Steve Hogarth (Marillion), recorded live in London 2001. The all-star band featuring names like Dave
Gregory and Richard Barbieri sure doesn't let you down. Simply: as good as it can get.

Michael Hedges: Royalties Not Included. Unofficial CD-R.

Bouree.

This is a beautiful live-recording from 1994 featuring only flute and bass. High standard jazz interpretation.
Helfrich & SoNS Acoustic Company: Said She Was A Dancer.

A tasteful demo-recording by Scott Helfrich and NSS. (If you want to know who's behind those initials, go to this friendly
website: www.nssworld.com.). An all acoustic version with good sounds and nice guitar work.
Helloween: Metal Jukebox. CD 1999 Raw Power.

Locomotive Breath.

Well...definitely not my piece of pumpkin-pie.  The good thing with this could be that some head-bangin' heavy-metal freaks
might find out that there is a band called Jethro Tull which performs music of splendour, variety, humour and a positive
attitude toward life. Although it's hard to imagine listening to this ordeal.

Herradeild Pó: Aqualung.

The first cover-version from Iceland! Found it on the unlikely site of http://whiskyfun.com/ArchiveAugust04.html. It's fairly ok,
with the singer's refreshing Icelandic accent:) Yeah, good.
Michal Hromek Consort: Consort Music. CD 2001 Indies Records.

Wondering Aloud, Acres Wild.

Wonderful instrumental arrangements by Czech guitarist and band leader Hromek. Especially WA works beautifully with this
orchestration--classical guitar, flute, violin, percussion and vibes. Top grade stuff.
The Ides Of March: Vehicle. LP 1970 Warner Bros. Records.
            Wooden Ships/
Dharma For One.

An interesting combination with a Crosby/Stills song that works well. Good sounds, excellent playing+ nice early seventies
atmosphere makes this a real gem.
Iron Maiden: The Trooper. 12" 1983 EMI.

Cross Eyed Mary.

High-pitched turbo heavy vocal almost puts this performance in the delicate field of unintentional comedy. Fairly good
            arrangement saves a lot.
I Teoremi: I Teoremi.
Tutte Le Cose (With You There To Help Me).

Early seventies Italian band fails to keep this psychedelia-inspired attempt together. Poor sound doesn't help. Originally
            released as a single b-side.

Jaakko & Aki Acoustic: Wondring Aloud, Cheap Day Return.

Jaakko Hänninen, mastermind of Slow Marching Band and a heap of other projects Tull and beyond, kindly sent me these acoustic gems.
Singer Aki Virta succeeds better with his partly improvised lyrics on WA, a really good take. Thanks guys!
Jethro Tull Cover: With You There To Help Me, Bouree, Farm On The Freeway. http://jethrocover.com/site.php

A Brazilian Tull tribute-band! You can find these versions on their stylish flash-site. My favourite is definitely FOTF with it's

"reverse order"; it starts with the magnificent instrumental passage. Yeah!
Jethro Tull Revival
: Cross Eyed Mary.

New Czech tribute band sent me this sample of their live work. Very convincing! Hopefully there will be more… Thanks Mojmir!
JTR celebrate their new website with 4 new covers: A Song For Jeffrey, A Wond'ring Aloud, Bouree, Living In The Past. Check
             them out at
http://www.jethro-tull.cz.
The "Jibs": Locomotive Breath. www.jibba-jabba.com/music.html

American comedy duo, live at some local bar. Starts with a couple of minutes of "jibba jabba", then a very basic LB with two
            acoustic guitars.
Jolene: Live At Acoustic Café. Promo CD 1998 Sire Records.

Mother Goose.

Jolene is an interesting band with some excellent original material. MG gets here a good, simple treatment on this rare
recording made for a radio broadcast.
Jolene: The Pretty Dive. CD 2001 Isadora's Scarf.

Cheap Day Nocturne.

Cheap Day Return performed a bit too slow with the singer acting out the blues a bit too much. Blended with echoes of
           Chopin.
Kalevala: Quinze Marins. Promo CD 2004 Pumpkin's Crew.

Mother Goose.

An Italian band named after the Finnish national epic! That can't be bad..:) Good live sound , cunning players… simply: very good!
Jack Kaufmann: Sign Of The Times. 1993.

Jack-In-The-Green.

A convincing performance. Good sounds with an arrangement faithful to the original. Apparently only released on cassette.

Jack Kaufmann: In The Grip Of Stronger Stuff. 2002.

Hyper-kind of JK to present me with this exclusive demo-recording. Not the easiest piece, but JK handles it with true brilliance.
He plans to include ITGOSS on his upcoming CD. That promises to be something else! Stand by at www.in-the-green.net.

Kloot Per W: Kill Pretty Weirdo. CD 1997 Zyx Music.

Locomotive Breath.

KPW toys around with acoustic guitar and miscellaneous samples, but without coming up with any new angle to LB.
Raymond van Kooten: A Token Of Admiration for Jethro Tull. CD-R (home recording) 1997.

Bakerst. Muse, For Michael, Jeffrey, Colins And Me, Slipstream, Wond'ring Aloud, Just Trying To Be, Under Wraps,
Dun Ringill, Pussy Willow, Nursie, Life's A Long Song, March The Mad Scientist, Up To Me, Reasons For Waiting,
Bouree, Wind Up, A Christmas Song, Skating Away, Cold Wind To Valhalla, Thick As A Brick, Mother Goose, Cheap
Day Return, One White Duck, Salamander, Bad Eyed And Loveless, Sossity, Grace.

A lo-fi JT tribute. A simple but ingenious idea to compile these acoustic classics on one record. If it wasn't for the varying sound-

quality I suspect Raymond would have a golden egg in his hand. The question is: who's going to empty the bank with this
concept?  Listening to this, I'm sure an official acoustic Tull-tribute would have a market, perhaps even beyond basic Tull-

followers. Why? Well, every Tull-fan knows the quality of these songs. When they are stringed together like this they form an
magnificent, touching, stunning wholeness. The ultimate concept album! It tells an unique story of musical brilliance, the life's
work of Mr. Ian Scott Anderson.
Wayne Krantz: Signals.  CD 1990 Enja.

Sossity, You're A Woman.

Great solo guitar performance. Beautiful jazz rendition. More of this, please!

Richard Last Group: Get Ready. CD Akarma.

Dharma For One.

DFO was apparently a popular cover-tune in the early seventies. This version works nicely to start, but after a while the group
ventures out into some kind of silly jazz-jamming, which doesn't lead anywhere.
Legacy Of Hate: The Killing. CD 2000 HBN Music.

Locomotive Breath.

Imbecile death-metal from Austria. Probably not intended as humour, but I almost had to laugh when I heard the "vocalist"
sounding like he's going to puke at any moment. But would it amuse at a second listening?  That question will probably remain
           forever unanswered.
Miikkali Leppihalme: Cheap Day Return, Crash-Barrier Waltzer, Dun Ringill, Mother Goose, Nursie, Set Aside, Thick As A Brick,
           Wond'ring Aloud, Wond'ring Again.

Miikkali is a singer/guitarist who performs frequently at Irish jams etc. in Helsinki. I was lucky to hear him play MG when his band
was on the same bill as my American cousin Jonathan Rundman at the rock bar Mendocino. He was so kind to share these files, mostly
home recorded, with me. And what a set of acoustic classics that is! The first covers of C-BW and WAg, two of IA's finest. I'm sure
Miikkali could score well if he decided to record a complete CD of acoustic Tull.
Lewis & Klark: A Buffalo Holiday With Friends. CD 1999.

A Christmas Song.

A nice guitar arrangement by L&K on this CD produced for charity purposes. Featuring an ascetic vocal performance by NSS.
Steve Lieberman: Locomotive Breath. www.indielaunch.com

A one-man punk band from NY. Sound described by an authority in the Tull-fan community as "a drunk cat when singing". SL
has also made a tribute track appropriately called "Ian Anderson". Completely weird stuff.

Steve Lieberman: Jew In The Underground. CD 2004 Gangsta Rabbi Bad'lan USA Records.

One Brown Mouse.

Downloaded this from MediaKinesis. SL is sympathetic in his completely uncompromising style, but musically… not my stuff.
