Medieval Medes

The idea of this page is to gather all possible information about Meads, Medes and atte Medes before 1600, except for what is in wills and parish records located elsewhere on this site. These records are from patent rolls, close rolls, deeds, tax records and so on. Since the Mead name originated as a topographical description, "at the meadow", the people called atte Mede before about 1300 are probably not related. For the most part I have left out the people named de Prato or de Pre (of the meadow) from before 1300. They were either French or the name was purely descriptive in the original Latin records.
