Miranda and her siblings with their mother, Kira. The kittens are 12 days old.
Miranda was originally called Cashmere, shortened to Mere, which eventually evolved into Miranda. She is also known as Mir-mir. She is a Russian Blue who was born to my niece's cat, Kira. When it turned out that she (and her siblings) couldn't be registered as a showcat and for breeding, the people who had originally reserved her for themselves didn't want her any more, and so I stepped in. On 24th March 2005, I brought her home to my two oldies, Frank and Nikki.
Miranda at about 12 weeks. She has retained this habit of climbing up people's backs. It was quite funny when she was still a little kitten, but now that she is a big girl, it's starting to get a bit old.
Miranda did not get a very warm welcome at first. Nikki met us at the door and immediately hissed at the poor little kitten. This scared the Mere kitten, who then hissed at Frank, just to be on the safe side.
Miranda at age nearly four months, on her fist day in her new home.
The hissing continued for a few days, but it didn't take too long before they all calmed down, and Mere and Nikki even seemed to be on the way to becoming friends, when Nikki passed away in a sudden and unexpected way in May. After that, Frank and Miranda reached some sort of understanding, and got along with each other, though not as good friends as Frank and Nikki had been.
Peaceful co-existence on the sunny balcony.
In the summer, Miranda saw our island for the first time. She behaved very sensibly, in contrast to her brother, Emil, who had remained with my niece. Miranda carefully inspected the area around my shack, then explored in wider and wider circles around it. Emil, on the other hand, just rushed out and set off for the hills without looking where he was going. Fortunately, my niece had him on a leash that first time, so he didn't get lost. Miranda also took Frank's cue. She didn't venture out on the cliffs until she saw Frank going there, and then she followed.
