Abandoned house of Backas

The birches hide the secret

History: Unclear at this moment. House is most likely part of the old estate of Backas.

Location: In Tammisto, near the river Vantaa.

Preliminary intelligence preview: We noticed a big abandoned barn house nearby last summer, and decided to inspect this target closely some day. Later the barn house was found to be in use or at least in somebody's yard, so we decided to look at the area more carefully and we found this house.

Preliminary actions: Nothing.

Expedition log and images: 26.6.2003. This is a great target. The house looked pretty scary from the road, and odd rusty pipes on the roof attracted our interest immediately. Closer inspection did not give much hint about this house's original purpose. The house can be described to be divided into two to three separate parts, the smaller room downstairs (where all the inside images are taken), the bigger room downstairs (full of junk), and the attic. We were able to look into part of the attic from the ladders and we saw some damper silos there. This indicates that the house probably had something to do with grain. Maybe it was a mill, a bakery, or part of fodder processing?

The house has received only small damage from the vandals, but it seems to have been part of some very weird cult-action. Immediately as we walked in to the small downstairs room, we saw some dark red stains and a handprint on the wall, which was later revealed to be animal blood (we saw an empty bottle of it nearby). Secondly we saw a bizarre looking chair. This bizarre throne stands in the corner, made of old wood, tens of nails nailed and razor wire roll on to it back rest. The entirety was crowned with a thick, rusty iron chain hanging from above. The creator of all of this is unknown, and most likely we do not even want to know it. Nearby the chair was one poorly made old bed with a fading cushion. An old black jacket was nailed to the end of the bed and plastic tarp was hanging above as a old-style bedscreen.

Across the road was another abandoned house, which we think to be a blacksmith´s shop. This house was filled with misc. junk and generally not inviting. Willow&S-man

The road to the damned house. The north wall.
The south and west walls. Note odd structures on the roof.
The south wall. S-mans bicycle lying on the forefront.
The south wall in detail. In my opinion, you could easily imagine some bullet holes, burns and Cyrillic slogans and it would not look any different than pictures of the Yugoslavian war.
The north wall, note pipes on the roof and a collapsed wooden "something".
Overall picture, taken from the yard of the blacksmith´s shop.
Picture from the inside. Note the stains on the wall. Ladders were too rotten to climb very far. An odd net of iron bars was attached to the walls, which may mean that this was some kind of drying room in the past.

The blacksmith´s oven.
The blacksmith´s shop. Note symbol near the roof.
