Old mill ruin of Mellunkyla.

The main stairs.

History: Local people said to us, that mill was build some where in the 1930-40. There is also rumour that it was never finished.

Location: In Mellunkylä, which is a densely populated community of Helsinki city. Site is located south side of Naulakallio school.

Preliminary intelligence preview: The site was found by FUE last summer.

Preliminary actions: Searching an aerial image from the FUE´s "arhives".

Expedition log and images: Site was photographed in summer 2003. In the same trek we were able to make contact with local people who have been living in the area for many years. Anyway, little was known about this target. The ruin is located on a small hill southside of the stream. Only the concrete basement has survived. There were plenty of white bricks laying on the hill, which hints to a probability that this mill was accually completed. We also found some banks on the eastside of the ruin, which may have something to do with the reservoir. There was not much to photograph. Overall, a small target.

An aerial image of the area in the 1940's shows the reservoir and somekind of storage area on the northside. The mill is marked with an arrow. Reservoir has vanished. Some remains of the dam gates are still visible on the bottom of the small stream.
