Omppu is a very sociable, healthy dog with excellent disposition. He's a darling at home, just the right mix of couch potato and rascal, whose patience towards the affection of neighbourhood kids is admirable. He has a great sense of humour, and he's a grinner when something he thinks funny happens. He's also a swimmer, also in the winter time if possible, which causes his mom grey hair when she tries to get him out of the icy water before it completely freezes and get him to warmth. He's also one of the best catchers his mom has seen, and he enjoys showing off his incredible volts while jumping for a ball or stuffed toy animal. He's very good with his feet in all kinds of terrains, and constantly scares unexpecting people by jumping down 6-foot cliffs at full speed. Deliberately, the little sadist  thinks his mom ;-) 

Omppu came to me in '97 after I had lost both my earlier two borzois prematurely, both within 4 months. I could not live a life without dogs so when I heard that Socrates - whom I had always admired - had stud Minni, a bitch with a very nice character and a healthy pedigree, and it had resulted to 3 males, two of which were red, my favourite color, I of course had to go and see them. Omppu was the more outgoing and open of the two, and I also thought he was better structurewise, so it wasn't a hard decision to make to get him. And I have not regretted it, not even when Omppu completely wrecked my place, furniture and even the bathroom floor. But that was his only flaw, and when he got company and a bigger apartment he has stopped doing that and is now a true enjoyment to live with. I even dared to buy some new furniture... ;-)

Gorgeous red sable Omppu has been rather successful at show world, too, although I have been a tad lazy in that area. He got his first CC at the age of exactly 9 months, the very first day his age allowed it by winning BOS at a big sighthound specialty over several multi-ch's. The 2nd CC came before he was 1 years old, at the Finnish Sighthound Club Specialty, so he had to wait for over a year to try for the 3rd CC and Fin Ch title. At 1,5 years he went Group-1 at an all breed show, he finished his championship at 2 years, got the last of the 2 domestic CACIBs at 2,5 years, won the Finnish Sighthound Club Specialty at 3 years of age over 65 entries, and finally last summer (in '00) won the open class of 37 2-7 years old (champions and non-champions) males at the big Finnish Borzoi Club specialty, and finally went 3rd best dog. He is multiple BOB and BOS, and has several best male placements. The nicest thing with Omppu is that especially breeder judges appreciate his allround good structure, so his mom is not the only one who thinks he's gorgeous. 'Beautifully built all through' has been on many of his judge's critiques. He also has perfect bite in every  way. He's about 79cm (31") tall at the withers so he's not the tallest of borzois, but well within the standard. 

Omppu has one litter of nine really beautiful babies at kennel Palmikon in Porvoo, Finland, and another litter of ten which was born at kennel Ailica's  in Hannover, Germany. Puppies out of both litters have been doing quite well in shows, Ailica's Chamberlain even went Junior Worldwinner 2002 ;-) Puppies at Ailica's can now be seen at their new website: www.ailicas-barsois.de

Omppu finished his Int Ch title in Estonia in Oct 27th 2002 by taking BOB, CAC and CACIB. Unfortunately the weather conditions forced us to miss the groups, but we're happy anyway. 

One of the puppies from Omppu's Estonian litter has moved to Finland. Ice grey and white Haldjas Eldamar, 'Eldo' moved to Kennel Dumlen to live with Eija Kukkonen, and is very much loved and admired where-ever he goes. Eldo has fabulous character, plus he is also very promising puppy. We will probably hear from him during the following years.

In May 2003 Omppu took part in two all breed shows in Russia, going twice BOB with CAC, twice GROUP-1 and once BIS-4. What a treat to have Russian judges appreciate him also ;)

The confirmation for his Int Ch title came in July 2003 so he is now officially an Int Ch and Ch of 5 countries :)
